Born in the Netherlands and a resident of Vienna, Austria, HANS THEESSINK (pronounced Tay-sink) is perhaps the best known and most respected of European born bluesmen. He has played at major blues-, folk-, rock- and jazzfestivals across Europe and North America including the Chicago Blues Festival, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Toronto Harbourfront Soul & Blues Festival, Kerrville Texas and the Philadelphia and Edmonton Folk Festivals.
Hans Theessink slides, chugs and bends his way into the steamiest blues east of the Mississippi. He is no pretender to this uniquely American form and embraces the blues and related roots music styles with a depth and a honesty few performers possess. Hans puts a lot of energy into his act, has a rich bassy voice and is a wizard on the guitar. A tremendous performer with 15 albums, a songbook and a teaching video to his name.

Hans is backed by JON SASS on tuba and ALEE THELFA on percussion and vocals.

African american tubaplayer JON SASS is regarded to be one of the best tubamen on the planet. He is at home with many different musical styles and seemingly effortless produces sounds that one would not expect from a "heavy" instrument like the tuba. ALEE THELFA is a native of Grenada in the Caribbean. Always surrounded by music, he learned the natural way. Alee composes, sings and is a soulful drummer/percussionist.

Due to their personalities and instrumentation HANS THEESSINK & BLUE GROOVE have an unique sound and musical appeal. It’s acoustic bluesbased music with a lot of surprises: A wholesome mix of blues, gospel, New Orleans shuffle, Mississippi roots and funky rhythms - spiced up with earthy vocals, Hans‘ songs and the incomparable guitar/tuba interplay, the result is a tasty musical gumbo.
